A Beam Package Carried from the Foyer to the Lanai
This Sarasota residence used beams in three separate spaces, the foyer, the great room, and the lanai. Treating them as one package rather than three individual orders is what makes the finished home feel cohesive from the front door outward.
Every beam was produced in our select cypress texture from the same run, so grain character and finish are identical whether a guest is standing in the entry or sitting outside at the end of the day.
Internal Aluminum Reinforcement for Longer Spans
The great room and lanai both required beams longer than a standard interior run. These were manufactured with internal aluminum reinforcement, a structural channel built into the beam that holds it perfectly straight across the full span.
Without that reinforcement a long beam can develop a subtle bow, which becomes obvious against a level ceiling line. The aluminum eliminates deflection while keeping the assembly light enough to handle and mount without heavy equipment.
Holding One Texture Across Three Different Environments
A foyer, a great room, and a lanai present three different sets of conditions. The foyer is fully conditioned, the great room takes strong afternoon light through tall glass, and the lanai is exposed to outdoor humidity and temperature swings year round.
Because the same high-density polyurethane performs identically in all three, no alternate material was needed for the covered outdoor space. The transition from interior to lanai reads as continuous, which is precisely what the open plan was designed to do.
