Brackets and Rafter Tails on a Caymas New Construction Home
Two Elements Working the Same Roofline
Brackets and rafter tails both live under the eave, and on this new construction home in Caymas they were specified together as one roofline treatment rather than as two separate decisions made at different points in the build.
Caymas is a newer Naples community where the homes carry a consistent architectural standard, and exterior detail is a large part of how a house holds its own along the street. Brackets and rafter tails are what give a roofline depth from the curb.
Both were supplied by Diamond Resin Products in high-density polyurethane, which meant one material, one finish process, and one set of installation requirements across the entire eave.
Rafter Tails Do a Different Job
It is easy to treat brackets and rafter tails as interchangeable exterior trim. They are not. A bracket sits at a wall to roof transition and reads as support. A rafter tail projects from under the eave and repeats along its length, suggesting structure carried through the roof.
One creates emphasis at specific points. The other creates rhythm across a run. On this elevation the brackets mark the transitions and the rafter tails carry the line between them, which is why specifying both produces a more complete roofline than either does on its own.
Diamond Resin Products manufactures rafter tails for a wide range of configurations, so the profile could be matched to the roof pitch and overhang on this house rather than approximated with the closest available option.
Matching Two Product Lines on One House
Using two different product types on the same elevation introduces a matching problem. Texture, color, and surface finish all have to agree, or the eave ends up looking assembled from parts.
Because the brackets and rafter tails came from the same manufacturer in the same material, the finish is consistent between them. Both prime and paint the same way, and both hold that coating the same way over time, which keeps the elevation uniform after a few Florida summers.
That is harder to guarantee when brackets come from one supplier and rafter tails from another. Different substrates take paint differently and weather at different rates, and the difference shows up on the eave long before anyone expects it to.
Pair Brackets and Rafter Tails for Your Elevation
We manufacture hundreds of bracket styles and finishes, and rafter tails for just about every configuration imaginable, so a roofline can be detailed with matched components instead of assembled from separate sources.
Browse the brackets page and the rafter tails page, or send us your elevations and our estimating department will return a take-off with profiles and quantities for both.
